Jan Hus preached church reform in Czech at Prague's Bethlehem Chapel, attacking the sale of indulgences and the wealth of the clergy. Summoned to the Council of Constance under a promise of safe conduct, he was burned as a heretic in 1415. His death set off the Hussite wars, and his ideas anticipated the Protestant Reformation by a century.
