Anne Lister, a Yorkshire landowner, kept a diary from 1806 until her death in 1840, some five million words, with about a sixth written in a code she devised to record her relationships with women. At Easter 1834 she and Ann Walker took communion together at Holy Trinity, Goodramgate, in York, and regarded themselves as married. The decoded diaries are on the UK Memory of the World register.
