Battle of Agincourt

A 15th-century English manuscript painting of archers and armoured knights fighting at Agincourt

Henry V of England, marching a sick and hungry army towards Calais, found his way blocked by a much larger French force near the village of Azincourt. On a narrow, muddy field between two woods, English archers and dismounted men-at-arms cut down the advancing French nobility. The victory opened the way to Henry's conquest of Normandy, and Shakespeare turned it into legend.
