In the Texas Revolution, a revolt led largely by American settlers and in part about keeping slavery, which Mexico had abolished, some 200 defenders including Jim Bowie and Davy Crockett held the old Spanish mission of San Antonio de Valero against Santa Anna's army. After a 13-day siege it was stormed and nearly all were killed. 'Remember the Alamo' rallied the Texian victory at San Jacinto.
