The Anglo-French Concorde prototype 001 took off from Toulouse-Blagnac with André Turcat at the controls. Built by Sud Aviation, which became part of Aérospatiale, with the British Aircraft Corporation, Concorde carried fare-paying passengers at twice the speed of sound from 1976 to 2003. Toulouse had been an aviation city since Latécoère's airmail line, later the Aéropostale, began flying from Montaudran in 1918.
