Jean Moulin and the Resistance in Lyon

Lyon, in the unoccupied zone until November 1942, became the main centre of the French Resistance. Jean Moulin, de Gaulle's envoy, worked from the city to bring the rival movements under one command, creating the National Council of the Resistance in May 1943. On 21 June 1943 he was arrested at a doctor's house in Caluire, tortured by the Gestapo under Klaus Barbie, and died in custody.
