On a limestone point on Newfoundland's west coast, Maritime Archaic people buried more than a hundred of their dead with harpoons, bone combs and red ochre some 4,000 years ago. Groswater and Dorset Paleo-Inuit hunters later lived here for centuries, leaving the house pits of Phillip's Garden. The cemetery, found by chance during building work in 1967, transformed what is known of early life on the North Atlantic coast.
