The Salonika front

British and French troops landed at Salonika in 1915, too late to save Serbia, and were later joined by Serbian, Italian and Greek forces along the mountains of the Macedonian border. Malaria laid low more men than the fighting during three years of stalemate. In September 1918 the Allies broke through at Dobro Pole, and Bulgaria became the first of the Central Powers to sign an armistice.
