On the Pratzen Heights east of Brno, Napoleon defeated the larger armies of Russia and Austria, whose two emperors were with their troops. An armistice was signed at Slavkov castle four days later, and the Peace of Pressburg forced Austria out of the war. Within a year the thousand-year-old Holy Roman Empire had been dissolved.
