After the Supreme Court outlawed school segregation, nine Black students enrolled at Little Rock Central High School in 1957. Arkansas governor Orval Faubus sent the National Guard to bar them and a white mob gathered outside. President Eisenhower took control of the Guard and sent the 101st Airborne, who escorted the students in on 25 September. Central High is still a working school.
