Prime Minister Kevin Rudd moved a formal apology in the House of Representatives to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children removed from their families under government policies from the late 1800s to the 1970s, and to their families. Members of the Stolen Generations watched from the chamber while crowds gathered at screens across the country. It answered the 1997 Bringing Them Home report, which had called for an apology.
