Susan B. Anthony votes and is tried

On 5 November 1872 Susan B. Anthony and fourteen other women cast ballots in Rochester, arguing that the 14th Amendment made them voters. Anthony was arrested at her home and tried at Canandaigua in June 1873, where the judge ordered the jury to convict and fined her $100; she refused to pay. The trial carried the suffrage argument across the country, and her Rochester house became its campaign office.
